With the 2012 racing now
entering its final full month of the regular season, points are on everyone’s
mind. Belyea has some ground to make up
in order to successfully defend his 2011 Late Model championship at Brighton
Speedway but he has been running well lately, after a slow start to the season.
In his qualifying heat race,
Belyea started from fifth place, and ended with a disappointing sixth place
result. The Excel Tower Service Late
Model would get the same fifth place starting spot for the 30 lap main event,
and once again, Belyea dropped to sixth before the finish. While the finish wasn’t what he was looking
for, it did launch him into third place in points, which puts him in the
highest position that he has been in all season long. He is just 255 points out of the lead in the chase for his second
consecutive Brighton Speedway title.
“We struggled a bit tonight,
and didn’t get the finish that we were looking for”, says Belyea. “We will keep trying and hopefully we can
get back to victory lane, and start chipping away at that points deficit over
the next few weeks”.
Belyea will be back at
Brighton Speedway again this Saturday night, and will be joined by the Excel
Tower Service Sprint Car, as Charlie Sandercock will be back behind the wheel
as the Southern Ontario Sprints return to Brighton.
The next major event on the
schedule for Greg Belyea and the Excel Tower Service team will come at Brighton
Speedway on September 8th as part of the Great Crate Race paying
$5000 to win. The next race for the
Excel Sprint Car will come at Brighton on Saturday, August 4th.
